March 16, 1989
To the Minor Variance Committe In 1978, I contracted at considerable expense to have my driveway widened
to allow parking of a second vehicle off the street. I felt my intentions
were honorable and completed in good faith at that time. I feel the same
today. I offer the following as proof for your consideration:
1- SAFETY- There were many small children (including mine) on the block.
The widened portion of the driveway is bordered on two sides
by a retaining wall. This reduced the probability of
children running between vehicles.
2- Maintenance- Common sense tells me that street cleaning and snow
plowing can be accomplished with less effort and
expense when vehicles are not present.
3- SERVICES -This is also true for mail delivery and garbage removal.
It is obvious by having this work done I violated a city code. That is if
it existed at the time. To have this corrected now would be very costly.
A retaining wall would have to be removed. A dirt bank would have to be
hauled away and the retaining wall rebuilt.
Please consider my request for a PIinor Variance favorably so that my
driveway can be reconstructed at its present location.
T ank you
Pala "tk bj"La
Donald L.
