M E M O R A N D U M
DATE: February 8, 1989
TO: Rick Jopke - Planning Administrator
FROM: Joel Hewitt - Fire Chief
Jon Nisja - Fire Marshal
SUBJECT: Proposed addition to Pavilion Place
The Fire Department Chief Officers met on Saturday, February 4,
1989 to discuss the proposed expansion to Pavilion Place at
County Road B2 and Snelling. The Fire Department had previously
requested of the Planning commission that a Fire Department
access point be provided at the northeast corner of the site
adjacent to the Snelling Avenue frontage road. This request was
not made a condition of the project by the Planning Commission
due to extensive concerns by neighboring property owners over
potential traffic problems in their residential area.
The Fire Department is still concerned about access to the site.
Our only access as currently proposed are two points along County
Road B2. We feel that the Fire Department access point at the
northeast corner of the project is warranted due to the increased
traffic volume which is projected on County Road B2.
We propose that a gate be installed in the fence along the north
edge of the site for access purposes. In addition, it would be
possible to provide curbing and some form of all-weather driving
surface (such as paving blocks) which would allow fire apparatus
access while prohibiting normal vehicular traffic to the site.
The property owner would be responsible for maintaining the
access.
We feel that this would be an acceptable means of providing Fire
Department access to the site while not allowing traffic from the
neighborhood into and out of the site.
Thank you for your time and consideration. If you have any
questions or need additional information, please feel free to
contact us.
