The Minor Variance committee met on October 19, 1988 and considered John Jaeger's request for a minor variance to allow expansion of the existing dwelling at 996 County Road B-2. Mr. Jaeger has added a 21 foot six inch by 24 foot addition onto the front of the existing house which does not meet the rear yard setback requirement of 30 feet. The existing dwelling has a rear yard setback of 6 feet. The City granted a variance in 1977 which allowed Mr. Jaeger to construct a new garage forward of the house with the condition that once a new home is constructed on the site, that the older home and garage will be removed. The minor variance committee was concerned that the current variance request was not consistent with the aforementioned condition and whether or not the committee had the power to contradict that condition by recommending approval of this variance request. The applicant stated that his intentions may have been misrepresented in the previous request because he has not intended to build a new home. He stated, however, that if he were to build a new house, he would build it in compliance with City requirements. The Minor Variance Committee unanimously recommend that the minor variance request be granted. The committee further recommends that the Council review the previous variance and determine if this variance is appropriate. All impacted neighbors supported the project.
