MEMORANDUM
DATE: July 25, 1988
TO: Craig A. Waldron
FROM: Rick Jopke
SUBJECT: Butler Paper Expansion at 3080 Long Lake Road
I met with
Friday, Jul
y
Based on preliminary discussions it appears that they will need 2
variances. They will have a floor area ratio of approximately
.39 which exceeds the maximum allowable floor area ration of .3
It also appears they will need a variance to provide less than
the required 94 parking spaces on the site. I'm not sure at this
point how many spaces they will be providing. I outlined the
variance process and time line for them.
The addition will be primarily warehouse space and as such will
not generate.a whole lot of new jobs. When I talked to Jim
Wilson this morning he indicated that they provide 54 jobs on the
site now with an additional 17 sales staff. He said over the
next 5 years they may add 13 - 14 new jobs.
Butler Paper has apparently acquired a new company and the
expansion is necessary because of that acquisition. Gerald Grant
stated that the expansion needs to be completed by January 1
1988 and that they are concerned about having to worry a bout
frost and cold weather if they can't get Council approva of
variances until September 12. He also seemed reluctant toput
together a proper complete variance application package for us to
review.
Based on our previous conversation, I let Jim Wilson know that it
appeared like we could have a special Planning Commission on
August 17, which would allow the Council to consider it on August
22. He seemed agreeable tog and agreed to attempt to have a
complete application tome by y 29. If we provide notice to
the Review by the end of this week, we can meet the 10 day notice
requirements.
