Simply described, Elder Homestead is an opportunity for older <br />people who need care to rent a place to live in their own <br />neighborhoods. It's like living at home with essential supportive <br />services available. The service program is tailored for each <br />person with additional health and social services provided, as <br />needed, through community resources. <br />The idea behind Elder Homestead is to provide a non -institutional <br />long-term care program where the care delivery staffing <br />arrangements, and the physical environment are adapted to the <br />The <br />unique needs and conditions of individual residents. <br />individual is not expected to adapt to architectural design or care <br />arrangements that are either too expensive or inappropriate for <br />what a person really needs and wants. <br />The primary emphasis is on the dignity of t;2e person, the home and <br />the family - not on the facility. <br />Need or want <br />- availability of food services, housekeeping, transportation <br />and security <br />- 24-hour non -medical supervision <br />- access to a full range of health and social services <br />- assistance in managing the services required <br />Would prefer to <br />- stay in their own community <br />- live in a small, congregate setting located in a <br />residential neighborhood <br />- have the flexibility of a rental arrangement <br />- maintain as independent a 1. ife-style as possible <br />Whose major alternative would be a nursing home. <br />People living at Elder Homestead are generally over 75 years of <br />age. Although they may be chronically ill or disabled and may need <br />help with activities of daily living, they are. vital and desire a <br />fulfilling community life. However, they do not have a diagnosis <br />of mental illness, nor do they exhibit behavior that is destructive <br />to themselves or others. <br />
