THE17A
LIGHTING & CONTROLS
GROUP
JM
14615 MARTIN DRIVE, EDEN PRAIRIE, MINNESOTA 55344 PHONE (612) 937-1880
August 17, 1990
Rick Jopke
City of Roseville
2660 Civic Center Dr.
Roseville, MN 55113
Re: Relighting of Target Parking Lot - Roseville, MN
Dear Rick:
As discussed yesterday, I would submit to you our point -by -point
calculations for Target's proposed relighting of the parking lot
area for the Roseville store.
I received your information regarding the new standards for open
parking areas, which requires a .9 footcandles in the general
parking and pedestrian areas, and in high activity areas where
vehicles are used, 2 footcandle minimum. All measurements taken
at 5 feet off the ground. Please note that all of our
calculations are taken at the surface and would be much higher,
in terms of footcandle levels, if the readings were taken at 5
feet off the ground.
Target's main purpose was to provide an entirely new blacktop
parking surface for all the vehicles. At the same they tuiought }
it would be appropriate, if their budget allowed, to relight the
parking lot, using basically the same pole positions and stay
within a slim budget.
We took footcandle readings of the existing parking lot at the
surface. I have recorded those readings on the attached proposed
layout so the footcandle readings could be easily compared.
As you can see we are increasing lighting levels dramatically.
The lighting with the new proposed design is extremely uniform.
Also note that the fixture being used is a sharp cut-off design,
therefore will comply very nicely, in terms of lighting
obtrusion, for the surrounding area and neighborhood.
The existing fixtures are all spot light, or floods, which are
focused up at approximately 45 degrees and obviously are a very
bright source to the public.
