1
I V . 1NdMMINI
Northwestern Col I ege occupies a site rich In indigenous vegetation.
Although future development, shown on Exhibit A, Amended PUD Plan,
necessitates the removal of some plant materials, the intent Is to
save as much existing vegetation as is practical. In certain areas,
It w it I be necessary or desirable to establ ish plantings to replace,
removed vegetation and to establish visual
continuity within the
revised campus layout. A majority of the plant materials proposed are
native to the campus area, thus providing a vegetative tie to the
surrounding landscape.
It is realized that development of this scale often has an Impact both
on and off the site. Through the use of plant materials strategically
pl aced, the v isual impact w I I I be reduced to off -site residences.
Shade tolerant evergreen species are proposed to be planted among
ex sti ng trees to the northwest of the future L ife and Health Fitness
Center and to the east of the future residence hall and tennis courts.
The use of evergreen pl ant materials increases the screening
effectiveness of this vegetative buffer during the winter when
deciduous plants are void of leaves. Deciduous species are introduced
at the woods' edge to strengthen this screening effect during other
times of the year.
Planting will be implemented In stages coincidental ly with each
development phase as indicated on the planting plan. See Exhibit [`
for the proposed planting scheme.
1
0
1
I
7
11
1 -10- 8621
