Wesjian R"idence
Page 3
site plan. A total of four trees will be removed, as indicated on the plan. None of the trees
removed are within the 75 foot shoreland setback area.
Variances Requested.
Entry gate. The site plan shows the location of a proposed entry gate structure
fronting on Josephine Road. A detail of the gate design is shown on the same sheet as the
site plan. The gate structure vW be placed on the entry drive and aligned to match the
line of mature lilac shrubs (now 12-13 feet tall) which parallel the front lot line. It will
thus be set back approximately 12 feet from the front lot line and approximately 40 feet
from the curb. The gate posts will be 30 inches square, constructed of brick and stone,
and the gate leaves and pediment will be custom designed black wrought iron. The gate
leaves will be configured to swing open inward (away from the road). The gate posts will
be 13 feet tall to the top of the capstone. A 30 inch to 48 inch tall carved stone finial will
be placed atop each capstone.
The purpose of the gate structure Is to enhance the continuity of the line of the existing
lilac hedges extending onto the subject property from the adjacent parcels. It is also
intended to provide visitors with visually clear and distinctive definition of the entry
drive for visitors approaching the residence by automobile.
Gasebo. The site plan shows the location of a propowd gazebo and associated access walk
in the Lakeshore area of the parcel. At Its closest point, the foundation of the structure Is
25 feet from the highwater line. This structure is designed in the same vocabulary as the
house: brick and metal clad steel with a copper roof. The structure will not be heated or
glazed as only seasonal use Is intended. The structure will not include toilet facilities but
It Is desired that a vet bar be included for entertaining. The perimeter of the structure
will have insect screening instead of glass to keep out biting Insects.
It is placed so that it is behind the line of oak trees which line the shore to minimize its
visibility from the lake. The floor of the structure vill be approximately 2 feet above
existing grade on the lake front side.
The zoning code does permit lakefront homeowners to have boathouses and docks within
the 73 foot shoreland setback area so that they may enjoy the lake for boating and
fishing. The owner does not wish to have a boathouse or dock, but prefers to enjoy the
lake by viewing It from a shaded, Insect free gazebo which does not intrude upon the
water surface or shoreline.
Architect: Arthur Dickey Architacts, Inc.
4930 France Avenue South
Minneapolis, Minnesota 55410
W3993
iiaadscape Architect: Robert D.
