PAUL, MINNESOTA • 55155 <br />DNR INFORMATION <br />(612) 296.6157 <br />August 30, 1983 <br />Ms. Marlene Voita <br />Minnesota Pollution Control Agency <br />1935 West County Road B2 <br />Roseville, Minnesota 55113 <br />RE: Metro Metals Recovery and Processi n Facility <br />Environmental Assessment Worksheet ?EAW) <br />Dear Ms. Voita: <br />FILE NO. <br />r <br />• <br />The Department of Natural Resources (DNR) has reviewed the above -referenced <br />document and we offer the following comments for your consideration. <br />This project may require a water appropriation permit from our Department. <br />The EACH indicates that 80,000 gpd will be discharged from the facility but it <br />does not indicate the source of the water. If this water will came from <br />on -site wells, an appropriation permit is required. If the water will come <br />from the City of Minneapolis water supply, then the city's appropriation <br />permit will have to modified to reflect the increased wi thdrawl, If the water <br />is contained entirely in the waste stream to the facility, then no permit is <br />necessary. Appropriation permits are required for withdrawl of water greater <br />than 10,000 gpd or 1 million gpy. <br />As mentioned in the EAW, it is very important that adequate measures are taken <br />to prevent contamination of ground or surface water from accidental spills of <br />waste materials. <br />Thank you for the opportunity to review this project. <br />Sincerely, <br />Thomas W.
