PLANNING REPORT
DATE:
CASE NUMBER:
APPLICANT:'
LOCATION:
ACTION REQUESTED:
PLANNING CONSIDERATIONS:
11 July 1984
1501-84
New Horizon Child Care Centers
West of New Trunk Highway 8, South of
County Road D
Amendment to Zoning Ordinance
1. At its June meeting, the Planning Commission requested that the staff
investigate further the handling of day care centers in other communities•
so as to give the Commission greater perspective regarding the possible
alternate ways in which day care centers can be designated as appropriate
uses in various zoning districts.
We have done some checking with other communities in the Metropolitan Area
with the following results:
SAINT LOUIS PARK
a. Permitted uses in R-1, R-2, R-3, R-4, and the RB (Residence -
Business) Districts. The RB District is similar to Roseville's
B-1 District.
b. Listed as conditional uses (similar to our Special Use category)
in the DDD (Diversified Development District), This District is,
in effect, a large scale PUD which applies to approximately 300
acres of land with mixed commercial, industrial, and residential
uses at the southwest corner of Trunk Highway 12 and Trunk Highway
100. We functioned as planning consultants to the property owners
in that replanning effort in 1976-1978. The uses in this area
include hotels, restaurants, the Cooper Theater, Honeywell
Manufacturing, a health club, a bank office building, and 50 acres
of office park (Parkwood and Gamble Center).
c. Permitted as accessory uses to churches in the residential
districts.
EDINA
a. Permitted in R-1, R-3, and R-4 Districts and commercial districts.
b. Accessory uses in churches and schools.
