<br /> <br />REQUEST FOR COUNCIL ACTION <br />Date: 3/4/2024 <br />Item No.: 7.d. <br />Department Approval City Manager Approval <br /> <br /> <br />Item Description: Consider Re-appointments to Advisory Commission <br />1 <br />2 Background <br />3 The Council annually appoints citizens to various advisory commissions. Council has the option to <br />4 interview returning commissioners for reappointment, or make appointments without interviewing. At the <br />5 January 8 meeting, Council decided not to interview commissioners seeking reappointment as outlined <br />6 in the attached Appointment and Reappointment Policy. Current Commissioners seeking reappointment <br />7 did reapply with updated applications at the request of Council. <br />8 <br />9 Currently there are nine (9) commissioners seeking reappointment as follows: <br />10 <br />Name Commission <br />Jeena Gurung Vomhof HRIEC <br />Nick Boulton Parks and Recreation <br />Pamela Aspnes Planning <br />Erik Bjorum Planning <br />Karen Schaffhausen Planning <br />Robert Murphy Police Civil Service <br />Dan Fergus PWET <br />Allison Luongo PWET <br />Sarah Rudolf PWET <br />11 <br />12 <br />13 Policy Objectives <br />14 The city’s Appointment and Reappointment policy outlines the notification and selection <br />15 process for advisory commissions. The intent is to establish a fair and open notification and <br />16 selection process that encourages all Roseville residents to apply for appointments. In <br />17 addition, the city’s Strategic Racial Equity Action Plan (SREAP) has identified diversifying <br />18 city commissions as a high impact area of focus. Racially and ethnically diverse <br />19 policymakers and advisors are key to serving residents and other customers with <br />20 excellence. <br />21 <br />22 Racial Equity Impact Summary <br />23 Racially and ethnically diverse policymakers and policy advisors are key to serving <br />24 residents and other customers with excellence. The role of appointed boards, commissions, <br />25 and councils is to advise the Mayor and Council on city policies and practices.
