Roseville Soils Testing Annual Report: Year 1
December 29, 2022
Page 6
Compost Soil Amendment
Twleve volunteers spread compost in a thin layer over much of the project site on October 15, 2022. All the top -dressing
test areas received about half -inch of compost, but the control areas were left free of the amendment. Application was
easier in areas that had been recently mowed.
Compost was not spread directly in the swale within fifty feet of the stormwater inlet to prevent negative impacts to
stormwater quality. The compost was provided by Ramsey / Washington Recycling & Energy and came from the SMSC
Organic Recycling Facility near Shakopee. It is mostly food waste compost that was highly screened.
Next steps
Soil testing for basic fertility and infiltration will take place in October 2023. Compost will be added by topdressing
volunteers in October of 2023. Final soil health testing will take place in October of 2024. Annual reports will be
submitted to the city of Roseville in December of 2023 and 2024.
