It also seems higher in at the toe of the slope compared to the summit.
Natural fertility in these fill soils seemed high to begin with as well. However, C:N ratio is not optimal in both composted
and control areas, suggesting that compost and erosion control blanket were too much feed stock for the microbes. Too
much feed stock creates a situation where microbes consume nitrogen, leaving less for plants. Soil pH is also a bit high
across all study areas.
Salts:
Salt Nebraska Lab (mmho/cm)
vegetation
Site Site Description management 10/15/2021 6/13/2022 10/10/2022
Њ ƭǞğƌĻ ƓğƷźǝĻ
Ћ ƭǞğƌĻ ĻķŭĻ ƷǒƩŅ
Ќ ƷƚƦ ƚŅ ĬĻƩƒ Ώ ĭƚƒƦƚƭƷ ƓğƷźǝĻ Љ͵ЍЍ Љ͵ЉВ
Ѝ ƷƚƦ ƚŅ ĬĻƩƒ Ώ /hbwh\[ ƓğƷźǝĻ Љ͵ЊА Љ͵ЉВ
Ў ƷƚĻ ƚŅ ƭƌƚƦĻ Ώ ĭƚƒƦƚƭƷ ƷǒƩŅ Љ͵ЏЊ Љ͵ЊЍ
Џ ƷƚĻ ƚŅ ƭƌƚƦĻ Ώ /hbwh\[ ƷǒƩŅ Љ͵ЎЎ Љ͵ЊВ
Salt can hinder plant growth at levels greater than 3.0 mmho/cm.
A look at salts was added this year because food waste compost can sometimes include higher salt content. Fortunately,
Ward Labs has been providing that test in the past. Salts do not seem to be present in high enough concentrations to affect
soil and plant health.

Qbhf!8!pg!63
