<br />REQUEST FOR COUNCIL ACTION <br />Date: 6/17/2024 <br />Item No.: 5.b. <br />Department Approval City Manager Approval <br /> <br /> <br />Item Description: Proclaim July 2024 as Parks and Recreation Month <br />1 <br />2 Background <br />3 The City of Roseville has historically recognized the important role that Parks and <br />4 Recreation has in providing tremendous health, conservation, and equity impacts on our <br />5 community. The City has identified Parks and Recreation as an essential service in the <br />6 adopted Parks and Recreation System Master Plan, and has continued to support a world- <br />7 class Parks and Recreation system that is highly valued by residents and visitors <br />8 throughout the community. <br />9 <br />10 The U.S. House of Representatives has designated July as Parks and Recreation Month <br />11 and encourages communities around the country to do the same. <br />12 <br />13 Policy Objectives <br />14 This is consistent with the policies outlined in the adopted Parks and Recreation System <br />15 Master Plan. <br />16 <br />17 Racial Equity Impact Summary <br />18 The provision of strong parks and recreation programs and services is a key tool in building <br />19 greater equity in our community. Some examples include: <br />20 The documented health and wellness benefits of park and program participation <br />21 Parks and recreation cultural exposure and education programs <br />22 The role that parks play as community gathering hubs where neighbors connect <br />23 The opportunity for people of all abilities to have a place to participate <br />24 The important environmental and conservation impacts that our 680 acres of <br />25 parkland provide to all of our residents. <br />26 <br />27 Proclaiming July Parks and Recreation Month highlights these and other important benefits <br />28 for the community. <br />29 <br />30 Budget Implications <br />31 None <br />32 <br />Page 1 of 2 <br />Qbhf!5!pg!331 <br /> <br />
