Roseville Public Works, Environment and Transportation Commission
Agenda Item
DATE: August 27, 2024 ITEM: 6.a.
ITEM DESCRIPTION: Lead Free Roseville Update
Background
The Minnesota Department of Health is requiring all public water systems to document what material the
water service to the homes and businesses are made of. The goal is to identify if any services are lead. The
City of Roseville's water system was started in the mid 1960's so there was likely very few lead services that
were installed.
Starting in 2023, the City started the Lead Free Roseville Program and started documenting water service
material. By ordinance, the property owner owns the water service from the main to the home. Historically,
the City documented the size of the material but did not document the type of pipe that was used. This
created a huge challenge to document all the water services, since there are 10,761 water services in
Roseville.
As of August 15, 2024, the City has identified 87% of all water services. There are still 1,408 services that
need to be identified. To date only 27 services have been identified as having lead, which is 0.25% of all
services. All these services are located in the same neighborhood.
Staff will give a presentation of the Lead Free Roseville program including the data collected, how it was
collected and how it will be used going forward.
Recommendation
Receive update and provide feedback to staff.
Attachments
None
