Roseville Public Works, Environment and Transportation Commission
Agenda Item
DATE: November 26, 2024 ITEM: 7.a.
ITEM DESCRIPTION: Less Mow May
Background
The City of Roseville has participated in No Mow May/Less Mow May since May of 2022 as part of the City's
commitment to sustainability and supporting community ecosystem health. However, recent scientific
studies suggest that refraining from mowing during the month of May provides few benefits to pollinators and
can have negative effects on turf health and blooming plants that typically grow in lawns.
Many cities, including the cities of Eagan, Edina, and Vadnais Heights, are pivoting away from support of
No/Less Mow May to promoting year-round pollinator -friendly lawn practices.
Recommendation
Discuss recommendations for Less Mow May and future pollinator protection strategies.
Attachments
1.
