<br />REQUEST FOR COUNCIL ACTION <br />Date: 2/24/2025 <br />Item No.: 7.d. <br />Department Approval City Manager Approval <br /> <br /> <br />Item Description: Receive Volunteer Update <br />1 <br />2 Background <br />3 In 2014, a full-time Volunteer Coordinator was hired by the City to effectively use volunteers <br />4 to enhance programming and services, and increase staff capacity to accomplish goals. <br />5 Since then, the Roseville volunteer program has accomplished significant goals, including <br />6 becoming a Service Enterprise certified organization. A Service Enterprise is an <br />7 organization that strategically leverages volunteers to achieve operational efficiency and <br />8 greater social impact. Service Enterprises are among the top 11% of nonprofits in the <br />9 country in volunteer engagement and organizational performance. The City of Roseville <br />10 was the first city in the nation to become a Service Enterprise organization, and is currently <br />11 the only certified city in Minnesota. Being a Service Enterprise organization provides <br />12 resources and benefits that allow us foster community engagement and trust, and <br />13 enhances the services we deliver and often times expands the reach and impact of those <br />14 services. <br />15 <br />16 2024 Highlights include: <br />17 5,446 volunteer hours <br />18 2,292 active volunteers <br />19 1,557 separate volunteer shifts <br />20 $197,744 dollar value of volunteer time (5,446 X $36.31, 2023 hourly volunteer value <br />21 in Minnesota, according to the Independent Sector) <br />22 88 Green Team volunteers spent over 850 hours keeping the city green and growing <br />23 18 Harriet Alexander Nature Center volunteers kept the Interpretive Center building <br />24 open 6 days a week by volunteering over 1,500 hours <br />25 13 volunteers helped build the new Sunset Park playground (in the rain!) <br />26 14 Roseville businesses volunteered with us in 2024, plus many scout troops and <br />27 civic organizations <br />28 <br />29 2025 Volunteer Program Goals and Updates <br />30 Volunteer satisfaction surveys after events <br />31 Finalizing Service Enterprise re-certification <br />32 Expansion of volunteer events with the acquisition of new natural resources staff <br />33 Increase accuracy in capturing volunteer hours <br />Page 1 of 2 <br />Qbhf!55!pg!354 <br /> <br />
