Regular City Council Meeting
Monday, May 13, 2024
Page 3
Councilmember Schroeder indicated she was going to say something very similar to that
where it is very clear but still broad at the same time. She thought that was one thing the
Council was hearing very clearly from the different people.
They wanted it to be much clearer as to what they were going to be working on. She also
liked what was said about making sure this is something that is going to be, will be some
passion around it, but then also get a lot of work done, which she thought was another
piece. She noted this would help to show the direction better but broad enough for when
things come up it will still be under this umbrella. She noted she has been working with
the group on this for a while, so she has had an opportunity to look at it a number of times
and she does like it.
Mayor Roe felt this was very reflective of what the Council heard back through this
process.
Mr. Montez indicated to the Council’s point of where the specifics will come, he thought
that looking at some of the scope and duties, at least on the beginning piece, will be
something that continues to evolve as their work grows. He thought regarding the initial
piece, the recommendation is that this team focus on supporting the equity and inclusion
work plans talked about. There will be one for the entire organization and one that will be
a little more specific to the departmental level. Staff is going to continue to pull the SREAP
through as equity and inclusion is talked about across this organization. That is where the
initial focus would be for this group, to work in those two areas. He noted this is going to
be a big project.
Mr. Montez indicated there was also discussion about the Equity and Inclusion Action
Team, which is going to be a learning and development place for many levels of the
organization across every area. He noted staff would like to bring a couple of members
along on the journey and embed them in the process in terms of how the City looks at it,
how does the City advance, and how does the City focus and lead with an equity and
inclusion lens in the City of Roseville. Staff wants the community to be along side them
on that journey. At the beginning, those are the three things that he thinks this group should
be focused on, how they will embed in the organization.
Ms. Olson noted that staff was pretty intentional with the wording used on reviewing and
providing feedback. Depending on what group format the Council takes, there may have
some legal implications in making sure they understand what that role is. They are to
review and provide some feedback.
Mayor Roe asked if the departmental equity and inclusion plans that were on top of the
arrow diagram are something that either eventually gets into this as well or is one of the
things that is an equity and inclusion action team piece.
Ms. Olson agreed and explained it is actually the equity and inclusion work plan that was
mentioned in the presentation.
Qbhf!:2!pg!354
