9. Options and Staff Summary
Given the feedback from residents and the various factors outlined in this memo, the following
options are available for City Council consideration:
a. Proceed with Full Vacation of the Aldine Street Right-of-Way
This option would eliminate public access through the corridor, granting the land to adjacent property
owners, subject to utility easements. It would address concerns regarding privacy and property rights
but remove the opportunity for future pedestrian access.
b. Retain Right-of-Way and Designate a Public Pathway; Update Pathway Master Plan
This would preserve the 30-foot right-of-way and initiate an update to the Pathway Master Plan. A
formal pathway would be scored and prioritized through the evaluation process and constructed in
the future, requiring tree removal, grading, and capital funding. Once constructed, the right-of-way
would be vacated and a pathway easement retained.
c. Do Nothing - Retain Right-of-Way with No Pathway Improvements
The City could maintain the right-of-way without pursuing pathway improvements at this time. This
option would preserve the land for potential future use while deferring the financial and design
decisions until a later date.
________________________________________
Correspondence Summary:
Appendix A for reference.
