It is a <br />normal phase in the climate cycle of most regions, originating from a deficiency of precipitation over an <br />extended period of time, usually a season or more. Drought can lead to water shortages. <br />Droughts are climate patterns that occur over long periods of time as the result of many causes. These <br />patterns are often exacerbated by climatic patterns such as La Nina, human activities such as over- <br />extraction of groundwater, and inefficient water use practices. Anomalies of precipitation and <br />temperature may last from several months to several decades. How long they last depend on <br />interactions between the atmosphere and the oceans, soil moisture and land surface processes, <br />topography, internal dynamics, and the accumulated influence of global weather systems. <br />3.7.2 LOCATION <br />Drought is a regional hazard, impacting large areas of land at once. The entire planning area is <br />susceptible to drought conditions. Figure 3 shows an example of drought conditions from November <br />2024.
