<br />~5- <br /> <br />WHEREAS the citizens of this community are fully aware that <br />our survival requires worldwide cooperation; and that this country's <br />highest hopes are in harmony with the hopes and aspirations of <br />peoples everywhere; and <br /> <br />WHEREAS the United Nations was created to maintain peace in <br />the world>> based on respect for the principle of equal rights and <br />self-determination of peoples, to reaffirm faith in fundamental <br />human rights>> and to raise the standard of living for all men -- <br />purposes which the United States of America wholeheartedly supports; <br />and <br /> <br />WHEREAS the United Nations is the only international forum where <br />nations large and small can gather together in their common belief that <br />the conference table is better than the battle field; and <br /> <br />WHEREAS the United Nations and its family of agencies has earned <br />the esteem and respect of the citizens of this country and of this <br />city for its practical achievements>> which directly benefit each one <br />of us in our daily lives, and help us to fulfill the humanitarian <br />obligations which Americans have always tried to serve; and <br /> <br />WHEREAS the success of the United Nations depends to a great <br />extent on the good will and support of a well~informed public: <br /> <br />NOW, THEREFORE>> Ip EMIL F. CEDARHOLM, MAYOR OF ROSEVILLE, <br />do hereby proclaim Monday, October 24, 1966p as United Nations Day, <br />and call upon all citizens of Roseville to observe that day in a <br />spirit of common purpose with the aims of the United Nations; I <br />urge everyone, groups or individuals, to participate in programs <br />and activities designed to give support and encouragement to effective <br />U. S. participation in the United Nations.
