EXTRACT OF MINUTES OF MEETING OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF ROSEVILLE * * * * * * * * * * * Pursuant to due call and notice thereof, a regular meeting of the City Council of the city of Roseville, County of Ramsey, Minnesota was duly held on the 11th day of March, 1991, at 7:30 p.m. The following members were present: Cushman, Maschka, Johnson, Thomas, and Rog, and the following were absent: None. Member Johnson introduced the following resolution and moved its adoption: RESOLUTION NO. 8669 RESOLUTION IN SUPPORT OF CONTINUING THE FIREFIGHTER TRAINING AND EMERGENCY MEDICAL CARE PROGRAMS AT NORTHEAST METROPOLITAN TECHNICAL COLLEGE WHEREAS, Firefighter training and emergency medical care staff and programs are slated to be eliminated at Northeast Metropolitan Technical college; and WHEREAS, Firefighter training is important in Roseville to maintain a proficient fire service capability for the safety of the public; and WHEREAS, Local, State, and Federal requirements mandate Firefighter training on a continuing basis; and WHEREAS, in 1990, Roseville Firefighters spent 1,876 student hours in Technical College classes, which is 33 percent of all training time spent by Firefighters, and exceeds 23 hours per Fire Department member on average; and WHEREAS, no other cost effective vehicle is available to provide this training to Roseville Firefighters; and WHEREAS, we are sure that the budget cuts outlined by the Governor and Legislature were not intended to severely affect this area which could have such a negative impact on the safety of the public and emergency service workers; NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, that the Roseville City Council endorses the fire training and emergency medical care programs supplied to Roseville Firefighters through Northeast Metropolitan Technical College and the Technical College system. We consider these programs vital to public safety in this community. Their continued availability is necessary to provide a knowledgeable and proficient fire service capability to Roseville residents. The motion for the adoption of the foregoing resolution was duly seconded by Member Thomas, and upon a vote being taken thereon, the following voted in favor thereof: Cushman, Maschka, Johnson, Thomas, and Rog, and the following voted against the same: None. WHEREUPON said resolution was declared duly passed and adopted.
