<br />'2.1.~ <br /> <br />(b) Liquid waste containing human exereta, and other matter, flowing <br />in or from a building-deainage system or SeTtler. Exerta include <br />feces, urine, secretions from the skin, expectoration, etc. <br /> <br />(c) Liauid wastes from dwellings and institutions, stables, and <br />business buildings. It may also contain liquid wastes from in- <br />dustries. <br /> <br />(d) A combination of (a) the liquid wastes conducted away from resi- <br />dences, business buildings and institutions, and (b) from in- <br />dustrial establishments, with (c) such ground surfacr, and storm <br />water as may be admitted to or find its way into the sewers. <br /> <br />(e) The ordinary liquid contents of a sewer containing organic wastes, <br />which mayor may not include street wash. <br /> <br />2-71 SHALL as used in this code is mandatory. _ <br /> <br />2-72 SOIL PIPE is any pipe which conveys the discharge of water-closets, <br />with or without the discharges from other fixtures, to the building <br />drain. <br /> <br />2-73 STACK is a general term for any vertical line of soil, waste or vent <br />piping. <br /> <br />2-74 ST"41RWAY means one or more flights of stairs and the necessary ~andings <br />and platforn~ connecting them to form a continuous and uninterrupted <br />passage from one story to another building or structure. <br /> <br />2-'15 STORY means that part of a buldding comprised. between a floor and the <br />floor or roof next above. (NOTE: See definition of Ilheighttl.) <br /> <br />2-76 STREET means any public thoroughfare, street, avenue, boulevard, park, <br />land, terrace, concourse or space thirty feet or more in width which <br />has been dedicated or deeded to the pu~lic for public use. <br /> <br />2-77 STREET LINE means a lot line dividing a lot from a: street. (NOTE: <br />compare Hith definition of "buHding line" and ""lot line".) <br /> <br />2-73 STRUCTURE means a combination of materials to form a construction that <br />is safe and stable; including among others, stadJimms, gospel and circus <br />tents, reviewing stands, platforms, stagings, ovservation towers, radio <br />towers, water tanks and towers, trest~es, piers, wharves, sheds, coal <br />bins, fances and display signs; the term lIstructure" shall be construed <br />as though followed by the words "or part thereof". (NOTE: The dis- <br />tinction bett-leen "structure" and "building" should be noted. II Structure <br />is the bnoader term; "Building" is a restricted form of "structure'1.) <br /> <br />2-79 ~RAP is a fitting or device so constructed as to prevent the passage <br />of air or gas through a pipe without materially affecting the now of <br />sewage or waste water through it. <br /> <br />2-80 TRAP SEAL is the vertical distance between the crown weir and the dip <br />of the trap. <br /> <br />2-81 VENT PIPE is any pipe provided to ventilate a buklding-drainage system <br />and to prevent trap siphonage and back pressure. <br /> <br />2-82 WALL <br />(a) Bearing wall means a wall which supports any vertical .lead in <br />-12- <br />
