<br />30z' <br /> <br />ORDINANCE NO. 203 <br /> <br />AN ORDINANCE M~ENDING SECTIONS 2 AN 6 OF ORD~NANCE NO. 186 AN <br />ORDINANCE PROVIDING FOR THE ESTABLISHMENT OF A VOLUNTEER POLICE <br />DEPARTI,TENT AND MAKING RULES AND R~GULATIONS FOR THE GOVERNMENT <br />OF THE SAME. <br /> <br />The Village Council of ~os~lle ordains: <br /> <br />_.~.,tI <br /> <br />SECTION 1. <br /> <br />That Section 2 and Section 6 of Ordinance No. 186 "An Ordinance <br />Providing for the ~stablishment of a Volunteer Police Department <br />and making Rules and .l.l.egulations for the Govermnent of the Same," be <br />amended to read. as follows: <br /> <br />Section 2. The Chief of Police shall be appointed by the Council. <br />His tenure of office shall be for six (6) years and until his successor <br />has been duly appointed except that he may be removed by the Cpuncil <br />for cause and after a public hearing. Upon application by any person <br />desiring to be appointed a police officer, the Chief of Police shall <br />interview said applicant to determine whether he meets the requirements <br />necessary to become a police officer. The Chief of Police shall <br />submit to the Council his recommendations and all applications <br />shall be passed upoh and determined by the Council. Police Officers <br />shall continue as members of the department during good behavior and <br />may be removed by the Council only for cause and after a public hear- <br />ing; provided, that within the limits set forth in Sec. 1 hereof, <br />the members of the Department may be reduced and in that event <br />members may be removed without cause and without public hearing, but, <br />in such case, members shall be removed in the inverse order to their <br />seniority in the Department. <br /> <br />Section 6. No person shall be appointed a Police Officer unless <br />he is an elector of the Village, able to read and write and speak <br />English under 40 years of age and in good health and physique, but <br />the last two requirements shall not apply to the Chief or Assistant <br />Chief of Police and the Council may waive such last two requirements <br />relative to the initial appointment of Police Officers. The Chief of <br />Police must also have had at least six (6) years experience as a <br />Police Officer. Applicants may be required to submit to physical <br />examinations and such examinations as may be determined upon by <br />the Councilor Chief of Police. <br /> <br />SECTION 11 <br /> <br />This Ordinance shall take effect and be in force from and after <br />its passage and publication. <br /> <br />Passed by the Village Council this <br /> <br />6 <br />- <br /> <br />day of September, 1955. <br /> <br />fA ~e~~ <br />FLOYD~OLSON MAYOR <br /> <br />.~ <br />B. .
