ROSEVILLE PLANNING COMMISSION
November 10, 1993

Page# 17

of 4 inches or less; requiring land within 40 feet of a property line, a
principal structure, and/or a public road pavement edge be maintained at
the 4 inch height of less. VVelsch explained that there would be
exceptions to this ordinance, including areas for wetlands and upland
native vegetation and wildflower and prairie restoration areas, public
parks, and public open spaces. The City Forester would be responsible
for determining which areas would be exceptions to the ordinance
requirements for 4 inch maintenance heights. Commission members
suggested that the staff provide a better definition of ornamental grasses
and that the 4 inch height be intended for turf grasses only. In addition,
the Commission expressed concern about the exception areas and asked
that steep hillsides be included as a potential exception"area.

Should the Council approve this amendment, the staff will prepare a
policy or educational document which describes the grasses and the
maintenance procedure.

No action was taken. Staff will forward comments from the Commission
to the Council.

8. (c) Member Hanns aSked the staff to provide information on how to request
a stop sign within a residential neighborhood. Rick Jopke reviewed the
procedure and suggested that Member Hanus discuss the issue with the
City Engineer.

9. Adjournment

There being no further business the meeting adjourned at 11:10 p.m.
