Chair Klausing noted that the council appointed Chair Klausing and Member Egli to both committees. Member Egli stated that she has no problem with the Member Egli and Chair Klausing participation. Member Mulder noted there is no personal gain or conflict. Chair Klausing noted that there could have been more public input. It is unclear where additional meetings with the Task Force would have changed the recommendation from them. Member Olson stated that the designation in the Comprehensive Plan is too premature. The Task Force meetings may help. There should be citywide discussion. Member Mulder explained that he was concerned that the Task Force recommendation may be premature because a consensus is necessary. A greater comfort level is needed. There are many myths that must be corrected. Motion: Member Mulder moved, seconded by Member Rhody, to continue the public hearing to the July 14, 1999 Planning Commission meeting, after the Task Force meetings. Mr. Wietecki asked the commission what the expectation would be in July from the Task Force? Member Mulder asked for more detail. Member Olson asked what type of meeting will be held and who will be invited? Chair Klausing asked if the hearing must be re-advertised if the district boundary is enlarged to include the Central Park area. Member Rhody explained that the "go slow" approach will allow residents to meet with the Task Force. Member Egli noted that more themes may appear and that it may require amending the boundaries. Member Wilke explained that the process and education on the topic must be expanded. What does this project really do? Member Cunningham described what other community center services may be. The scope has expanded and impacts more neighborhoods. Should this project be centralized or decentralized? Chair Klausing explained that the Task Force must "sell the idea." Nothing new may occur. Member Rhody said this was/should have been a concept review with a 60-day pause. There should be a firm proposal for the Commission to review.
