4.Communication Items

Duane Schwartz handed out the draft of a letter announcing a meeting for
the July 30th board meeting of the North Metro 35W Corridor Coalition
where they’ve invited Mn/DOT to speak on highway project needs and
prospects in the corridor area, which is Roseville to Blaine. They’re also
going to talk about the recently approved bonding by the state and how
that area might be affected by it. It might be of interest to Commission
Members to attend. Member Willenbring asked if they’re pushing for
highways and other types of projects as well. Schwartz said he wasn’t
sure at this time.

Member Wilke asked Schwartz about getting a tour of the Mn/DOT
Traffic Management Center. Schwartz said there is a process to set up
tours and that he has requested Administration to set that up.

Agenda Change: Mayor Kysylyczyn was there to swear in Ernie Willenbring as
a member of the Public Works and Transportation Commission.

5.Clean-up Day Update

Tim Pratt, Recycling Coordinator, was in attendance to update the
Commission on Clean-up Day. Tim stated that because of the experience
of the companies involved and the work staff did advertising it, the day
went very smoothly. There were many good comments from residents.
There was a considerable amount of garbage dropped off. Some of what
was collected included: 30,000 pounds of scrap metal, 890 pounds of
electronics, and 400 tires.

Member Wilke read an e-mail from resident Paul Nelson thanking the City
for having Clean-up Day.

Member Willenbring asked if the City would do this again next year. Pratt
stated that the 2004 budget includes funding for another Clean-up Day.

Member Wilke moved to begin looking forward to 2004 Clean-up Day.
Member Willenbring seconded.

Ayes: 4
Nays: 0
Motion carried

Member Anderson wondered if there would be enough support for two
clean-up days per year. Pratt said that staff would follow through with
whatever was recommended by the Commission; however, he feels that if
the public relies too heavily on government to fill their recycling needs,
there will be no pressure on private industry to provide solutions.
