Member Willenbring asked if the shelters are placed so as to provide as much
coverage from bad weather as possible. Piernot said they do the best that they
can as there are a number of different positions shelters can be placed to provide
the best windbreak.

Member Wilke asked for information on which stops had the most riders.
Piernot said that Metro Transit doesn’t keep track of those figures. He also said
Metro Transit is way behind on installing bus shelters and has no funding.

Member Willenbring asked how much time it takes to move a shelter. Piernot
stated it can be done in four hours and explained how it is done.

Member Rossini asked about external lighting on the shelters. Piernot said that
they’ve already talked with Xcel about bringing electric power to shelters and
will be working with them on installation.

Piernot said they do not dictate the design of the shelters. They offer the shelter
amenity and then work with the city to develop whatever design works for
them.

Schwartz said that if the Commission is not ready at this time to give
recommendations, the item can be brought back at another meeting. Since the
City Council is going to visit this issue on June 21, Member Anderson
suggested the Commission have a special meeting to discuss the issue and come
up with recommendations. Schwartz suggested moving the regular July
meeting up two weeks so there would only be one meeting in the month. It was
decided to meet on Thursday, July 10.

Member Wilke asked about US Bench, will they have to pull their benches out
to make room for the shelters. Schwartz said that was something the Council
st
would be deciding on the 21. Member Wilke asked if the Commission could
hear from the US Bench people, getting more input to make decisions.

Scott Danielson, US Bench, briefly gave information on the services his
company provides. Danielson said there’s usually room for both benches and
shelters. Member Wilke said he was concerned about two companies
maintaining the same corner. Danielson said there’s never been a problem.

8.Update on City Hall Building Project

Schwartz updated the Commission on construction progress.

9.Other Items

None
