Roseville Public Works and Transportation Commission Agenda Item Date: April 27, 2004 Item No: 5 Item Description: Transit Shelter Discussion At the February Commission Meeting, we had a discussion of proposed bus shelter sites. You approved the proposed sites pending site plan reviews by city staff at that time. Since that meeting, Outdoor Promotions has asked for a revision in some of the locations proposed. A map of the new list of locations is attached. As you can see, some of the new locations are shelters proposed to be replacing existing Metro Transit shelters on or near Snelling Avenue. We have requested written acknowledgement from Metro Transit that they concur with these replacements. We have been advised that they are reviewing the proposal. We have sent notice to all properties within 350' of each of the proposed sites regarding a hearing before the Commission on April 27, 2004. We have received one response ofopposition regarding the proposed shelter at Rice Street and McCarrons Street. The owner of the service station expressed his opposition to the shelter being placed adjacent to his property. I believe this shelter is proposed to the south, adjacent to the Hess Labs property. Mr. Piernot from Outdoor Promotions will be at the hearing to answer questions and present sample proposed site plans of the locations at County Road Band Hamline Avenue. After hearing comment from the public, you may want to reaffirn1 your acceptance or denial of certain sites. Last summer, the Public Works Transportation Commission established siting criteria for bus shelters within the City of Roseville. These were: I. The site needed to be an existing Metro Transit Bus Stop 2. A clear line of sight needed to be maintained for vehicles 3. A clear line of sight needed to be maintained for transit users. 4. Electric service must be available. 5. The shelter needed to be set back from the curb at least 4 feet. 6. The site must be visible for cross traffic. 7. The location must have a commercial/ industrial land use.
