Member Fischer asked if pedestrian traffic is studied the way vehicle
traffic is studied. Wilke said yes. Fischer said having that infonnation
would help in narrowing down the spots for signage.

Member Fischer asked what the price is on a centerline sign. Schwartz
said they run about $300 with the base plus installation. The County
would want to install the signs on county roads and would probably do it
for free unless there was a huge amount of them.

Member Shiely said that he drove all the suggested sites this morning at
4:00 a.m. and there was inconsistency in the signage. Schwartz said that
signs were placed according to the needs for that location. Shiely said he
thinks all intersections should be signed alike. He thinks there should be
double-sided signs before each intersection.

Member Fischer asked which sign was more effective, the picture of
people walking or the text sign saying "Stop for Pedestrians". Sergeant
Christensen said he thinks there are a lot of people out there who still
aren't aware that the pedestrian has the right-of-way.

Schwartz said he can come up with costs for some of these ideas and
asked for clarification on what the Commission wants to discuss at the
next discussion. He listed what he had gotten from them so far: look into
what the costs would be for different types of signage, for double face
signs, for "Stop for Pedestrian" signs; look into the actual cost from
Ramsey County for centerline crosswalk signs-would there be a charge
to the City; get the costs on painting crosswalks-can this be done once or
twice a year; research education efforts (annual campaign).

Member Shiely said that there's a site aligmnent problem for site #20.

Member Wilke said we should look into the reason for the inconsistency
in signage. Schwartz said the budget is a consideration.

6. Tentative May Agenda

South Owasso Street Reconstruction
Twin Lakes Traffic Plan

Schwartz said the Member Shiely had requested a tour of City facilities
and asked the Commission when would be a good time. Member Wilke
liked Saturday morning. Member Shiely said he didn't think it was fair
for Duane to have to come in on a Saturday and suggested that the tour be
done late afternoon on a work day. Duane said he would get back to them
with suggested times.

7. Adjournment

Page 3 of3
