effort, which was approved in the 2006 budget. Now, decisions need to be
made on the best ways to spend the money.

Chair Wilke suggested that a subcommittee be set up, including members
from the Parks Commission, to make some recommendations. They will
meet as many times as necessary to come to some decisions and then
report back to the Public Works Commission. Schwartz said staff would
begin collecting data.

Chair Wilke volunteered himself. Schwartz said he would contact
Members Fischer and Neprash to see if they were interested, but Member
Willenbring said he would serve if neither of them did.

Member Neprash arrived at the meeting and volunteered to sit on the
Pedestrian Safety Committee.

9.Council / Commission Joint Meeting

Schwartz said the City Council had set goals for 2006. One of them is to
improve communication and establish better relationships with all city
commissions. The Public Works Commission is scheduled for the regular
July 17 council meeting. All Public Works Commission members are
asked to attend. Commission members should submit in advance to the
City Manager any topics they want to discuss at the meeting.

Member Neprash said that the Commission has a new charge as far as
environmental issues, and it’s never been addressed to his satisfaction
what the Council expects of the Commission in that respect. He suggested
that as a possible topic.

Member Willenbring suggested that when there is a major issue that may
need to be discussed by more than one Commission that everyone get
together for one meeting. Schwartz said there can be time constraints with
different processes, which makes it more difficult to schedule a joint
meeting.

Chair Wilke said he’s seen issues being tackled by other commissions that
should have come to Public Works and that someone needs to be watching
to see that these issues get channeled to the right commission.

10.June Agenda

Pesticide follow-up discussion
Council joint meeting topics
Pedestrian safety

11.Adjournment
