Might Doesn't Make Right <br />A consistent theme of all these "tests" is that "might doesn't make <br />right." Public service is not about getting your own way and forcing <br />your will on other people. Nor should public servants believe or feel <br />that they alone know what is best for Roseville. Public service is <br />about a fair process and a fair result where the desires of affected <br />persons are considered along with competing ideas about what is <br />best for Roseville over the long run. <br /> <br />Decision-Making Tests: Might Doesn't Make Right. <br />1. Productive Communication <br /> <br />Conflicting voices often urge us toward vastly different positions and <br />points of view. Too often, these voices are just trading conclusions <br />and positions back and forth. Energy is invested in fixing the blame <br />instead of fixing the problem. We are in a seemingly endless cycle of <br />accusation and counter-accusation. No one is really listening or prob- <br />lem solving. <br /> <br />Or maybe we feel we are in the middle of a show where everyone is <br />playing to some imagined or real audience. Sometimes it feels like <br />everyone is posturing, puffing and preening, not problem solving. <br /> <br />20 <br />
