RI~ Erosion Control Permit Information Handout Purpose: In order to ensure that contractors are meeting the City's Erosion Control Ordinance, it is necessary for Public Works Staff to inspect construction sites after a rain event or at least once a week. The staff time spent on the inspection will vary depending on the size of the construction site. The fees for this permit are based on the size of the site. Application Fee Size of site Approx constmction time Fee I <5 acres 7-8 months $480 >5 acres 12 months $720 Minimum reQuirements: . SWPPP must be provided as a part of the pemlit application. This erosion control plan must be approved prior to permit issuance. . Sites over I acre must provide the City with a copy of their MPCA NPDES permit. Prior to site grading, and before any constmction starts, the erosion control plan shall be implemented, inspected and approved by the CITY. No constmction activity will be allowed and no building permits will be issued unless the site is in full compliance with SWPPP. . All areas disturbed by the excavation and backfilling operations shall be reseeded within 72 hours after the completion of the work in that area. . All basement and/or foundation excavation spoil piles shall be kept completely off city right-of-way and shall be completely surrounded with an approved erosion control silt fence. . Except as otherwise provided in the erosion control plan, seed shall be rye grass or other fast- growing seed suitable to the existing soil to provide a temporary ground cover as rapidly as possible. . Sod is required on all slopes greater than ten percent (10%) gradients or as directed by the City Engineer. . All seeded areas shall be mulched and disc anchored as necessary for seed retention. . Street sweeping shall be performed daily to prevent tracking onto the City streets. . If the plat development does not comply with the erosion control plan and schedule or supplementary instructions received from the City, the City may take such action as it deems appropriate to control erosion. If the permit holder does not reimburse the City for any cost the City incurred for such work within thirty (30) days, the City may stop work on the construction site or draw on the permit holder's erosion escrow.
