<br />CITY OF BLAINE NEIGHBORHOOD TRANSPORTATION PLAN <br /> <br />6.0 Toolbox of Neighborhood Traffic Management <br /> <br />Strategies <br /> <br />The following Toolbox provides information on a variety of traffic management strategies. Each <br />strategy includes information on its purpose, its effectiveness for solving different types of <br />traffic problems, and a summary of advantages and disadvantages for implementation. To <br />make the toolbox understandable and usable it has been organized into types of strategy as <br />follows: <br /> <br />Traffic Control Devices - the use of common traffic control devices, such as signing and <br />pavement markings, to solve neighborhood traffic problems. Included in this category are: <br /> <br />- Vehicle restrictions All-Way Stop Sign Implementation <br /> <br />Turn restrictions Parking Restrictions <br /> <br />One-Way streets Pavement Markings <br /> <br />Watch for Children Signs Speed Limits <br /> <br />Stop Sign Implementation <br /> <br />Enforcement - there are two options for using enforcement as a traffic management strategy: <br />increase police enforcement, the use of Variable Speed Display Boards <br /> <br />Roadway Adjustments - there are multiple strategies for traffic management that change the <br />appearance of the roadway including: <br /> <br />Narrowing of lanes <br />Chokers <br /> <br />Mid-Block Narrowing <br />Chicane <br /> <br />Vertical Elements - introducing vertical elements to the roadway, either as obstacles for <br />vehicles to drive over or around, are common traffic management strategies.
