<br />Human Rights Commission Meeting <br /> <br />Tuesday, December 13, 1983 <br /> <br />1. <br /> <br />Call To Order. <br /> <br />The meeting was called to order at 7:45 p.m. <br /> <br />Others Present: <br /> <br />Bailey, Bentley, Hays, and Henry. <br />Mackey, McKenzie, Nackerud, Thomas, Zalk, and <br />Zielske. <br />Ron Moorse, staff. <br /> <br />II. <br /> <br />Roll Call. <br /> <br />Members Present: <br />Members Absent: <br /> <br />I II. Business. <br /> <br />A. Bentley indicated that, due to the lack of a quorum because of the bad <br />weather, he will communicate with the Commissioners by telephone re- <br />garding the date and preparations for the Commission's meeting with <br />the area's legislators. <br /> <br />B. Hays indicated the grievant in the no-fault case she was handling has <br />dropped the grievance and returned to work. <br /> <br />C. Bentley assigned a grievance to Henry regarding a person who was <br />terminated from employment. The grievant had been employed by the <br />firm for approximately 10 years, and was several months short of <br />vesting in the firm's pension plan. The grievant had received several <br />verbal warnings regarding tardiness. The grievant was terminated for <br />arriving late for work on a snowy day. <br /> <br />D. The League of Women Voters is beginning a study, within School District <br />623, of sexual stereotyping in textbooks. The League is welcoming <br />comments and cooperation from interested Commissioners. <br /> <br />E. Bentley distributed two grievances being handled at the State level. <br />They involve discrimination in employment due to national origin and <br />age. <br /> <br />F. A training workshop on the Human Rights Act and no-fault grievance <br />resolution is being planned. Bentley will have more information at <br />the January meeting. <br /> <br />G. Bentley announced he will not serve another term on the Commission. <br />His current term expires on March 31, 1984. The Commission will need <br />to start the process of electing a new Chairman as soon as possible. <br />For this reason, the process for reappointment of other Commissioners <br />whose terms will expire on March 31, 1984 should be started as soon as <br />possible. <br /> <br />H. Bentley indicated Commissioners should now call his home phone to contact him. <br /> <br />IV. Adjournment__ <br /> <br />The meeting was adjourned 'at 8:15 p.m. <br />
