HUMAN RIGHTS COMMISSION MINUTES
TUESDAY, MAY 12, 1992

I. Call to Order
The meeting was called to order by Commission Chair Deutsch
at 7:30 p.m.

II. Roll Call
Members Present: Stan Borden, Thelma McKenzie, Mary Jean
Turinia Anderson, David Norrgard, Linda Larmore, Michael
Trainor, Kim waite, Mary Helen Deutsch
Others Present: Laura Kushner, Staff Liaison
Excused Absences: Bob Bancroft, Jackie Lindberg

III. Approval of Minutes postponed until next meeting.

IV. Commission overview Deutsch discussed and reviewed the
purpose of the Commission and the role of the individual
commissioners for the benef it of the new Commission members.
Kushner discussed the role of the staff liaison.

V. Business
A. Current Events. The Commission took some time out to
discuss current events in Los Angeles and Minneapolis and
discussed the reality of racism and bigotry in the suburbs
as well.

B. Multicultural Event
commission Chair Deutsch discussed the need for the
commission to make a commitment to proceed with the
Multicultural Event and for a subcommittee of the Commission
to take the lead in planning the event. McKenzie
volunteered to Chair the subcommittee. Anderson, Larmore
and Bancroft will also serve on the subcommitee. Because of
McKenzie's involvement with the League of Human Rights
Commissions and because their annual conference is held on
september 19, it was decided that the Multicultural Event
would have to be moved into early October. Kushner will
contact Rosedale (and possibly Har Mar) to see which dates
are open.

Bob Bierscheid, Director of Parks & Rec. for the City of
Roseville joined the meeting for a few minutes to discuss
the involvement of the Parks & Rec. Department. He stated
a few ways that Parks & Rec. might be able to be of
assistance: publicity, signs, physical set-up, contacts
with schools and other communities and possibly integration
of the event into some of the ongoing summer acti vi ties
planned at Parks & Rec. Bierscheid (or a Parks & Rec. staff
member) will plan to attend the subcommittee meetings as
requested. McKenzie will contact Bierscheid within the next
two weeks with a rough plan of how to proceed with the
Event.
