All ayes. <br /> <br />A motion for approval of the September <br />1993 and November 9, 1993 Minutes was <br />and seconded by Mary Jean Turinia <br /> <br />Essav Contest. Commission members discussed the continued <br />success of the Essay Contest. Some new ideas were also <br />noted: Adjust the timetable to get the essay question to <br />teachers in August; make it a standing option for high <br />school kids in English classes and focus on upper school <br />kids, especially 10th & 11th graders. <br /> <br />Bias/Hate Crime Report. Mike Trainor discussed a meeting he <br />attended in St. Paul regarding a statewide network on <br />response to bias/hate crimes. Mike also discussed that the <br />written program for bias/hate crime response in Roseville is <br />close to completion and just needs some minor adjustments. <br /> <br />Election of Chair. Stan Borden motioned that Mike Trainor <br />be elected as the new Chair of the Human Rights Commission. <br />The former Chair, Kim Waite, resigned due to a move out of <br />the Roseville city limits. A new election will be held in <br />April, as usual. <br /> <br />Grievance Update <br /> <br />Stan Borden reported that the last grievance he was involved <br />in fell through due to an appointment not being kept by the <br />parties concerned. <br /> <br />Mary Jean Turinia Anderson reported that the condominium <br />grievance had come very close to mediation meetings, but the <br />parties could not agree on some items and decided they did <br />not want face to face meetings. The parties did at least <br />come away from the process knowing each other's positions. <br />
