<br />HUMAN RIGHTS COMMISSION MINUTES <br />TUESDAY, OCTOBER 10,1995 <br /> <br />I. Call to Order <br />The meeting was called to order by Chair Mike Trainor at 6:40 p.m. <br /> <br />II. Roll Call <br />Members present: Mike Trainor, Janet Henquinet, Mary Jean Turinia Anderson, <br />Jill Bergquist, Thelma McKenzie, Margaret Murphy Maertz and <br />Mike Hermes. <br /> <br />Members absent: Sue Forsyth. <br /> <br />f <br />p <br /> <br />Others present: <br /> <br />Sally Chial, Staff Liaison, and Marcy Cordes, Administrative <br />Intern. <br /> <br />III. Approval of Minutes <br />Mike Hermes moved, Janet Henquinet seconded, that the minutes of the September <br />12, 1995 meeting be approved. Roll Call, Ayes: All present. Nays: None. <br /> <br />IV. Bias Hate Crimes ~ . ~ <br />Mike Trainor reported that he had a discussion with theX~tt6rney regarding the <br />racist type vandalism in the City. He was informed that with this particular case, he <br />would have difficulty getting information because there is a juvenile involved. He <br />expressed an interest in the Commission being able to participate in the process. <br /> <br />V. Cable TV <br />Mike Hermes reported that there are three one hour shows that have played twice <br />on local channels regarding the recent Human Rights Conference. The schedule <br />appears in the Roseville Review. <br /> <br />VI. Essav Contest <br />Jill asked the Human Rights Commission if they were interested in sponsoring the <br />annual Essay Contest. Extensive discussion followed, and it was decided that the <br />contest should be open to all 7th and 8th graders who live in Roseville or attend <br />Roseville Area Schools. The essay length this year is open. The essays are due <br />November 30, with the awards being presented by the City Council at their January <br />8, 1996 meeting. <br /> <br />This year the contestants must answer the following two questions: ~.~~ftl(j) <br /> <br />Suppose there were kids in your community spray painting houses, r-;c V\ 1 (~ <br />cars, and buildings with hateful words directed at people of different It <br />races and religions. pJr.Ji;~ t <br /> <br />1.
