HUMAN RIGHTS COMMISSION MINUTES TUESDAY, DECEMBER 12, 1995 I. Call to Order The meeting was called to order by Chair Mike Trainor at 7:05 p.m. II. Roll Call Members present: Isaac Afwerke, Jill Bergquist, Susan Forsyth, Janet Henquinet, Mike Hermes, Mike Trainor Members absent: Mary Jean Turinia Anderson, Margaret Murphy Maertz, Christine Malark, Thelma McKenzie Others present: Marcy Cordes, Commission Liaison III. Approval of Minutes Janet Henquinet moved, Mike Hermes seconded, that the minutes of the November 14, 1995 meeting be approved. Roll Call, Ayes: All present. Nays: None. IV. Bias/Hate Crimes No report. V. Cable TV Mike Hermes reported that there would be no program broadcast in December. A new goal has been set for a January broadcast. Susan Forsyth suggested that a portion of a Ruth McKenzie video addressing gender equity be broadcast on the January show. Hermes agreed to phone Ms. McKenzie. The January program will also include a report of essay contest results. Mike Trainor and Mike Hermes agreed that one of them would attend the joint meeting of regional Human Rights Commissions in Maplewood to pitch Roseville's cable program to other cities in attendance. Commission liaison will send R.S.V.P. for a Roseville representative to attend the Maplewood meeting. VI. Essay Contest The Commission members present agreed to split up the work of calling participating schools and picking up the completed essays. All essays will be delivered to Jill Bergquist and Janet Henquinet, who have agreed to do the initial reading of submissions. The Commission will review the best of the essay submissions at the next meeting, and pick the contest winners. The meeting scheduled for January 9, 1996, will start at 6:30 p.m. to allow enough time to select winners.
