November 13, 1996 Ms. Delores Fridge Minnesota Department of Human Rights 500 Bremer Tower 7th Place and Minnesota Street St. Paul, MN 55101 Dear Ms. Fridge: We, the Roseville Human Rights Commission, are writing to offer our assistance in resolving human rights charges arising within Roseville. Our Commission offers no-fault grievance mediation, which is ideal for any type of dispute arising under Minnesota Statutes Chapter 363. We also have several Commissioners who have received certified mediation training through the American Arbitration Association. It is our understanding that the Department of Human Rights will not refer charges to local Human Rights Commissions unless they fall within certain statute oflirnitations guidelines. We fully understand the need for this policy to protect the rights of charging parties. However, we have no knowledge of any charges which have been referred to our Commission in the past several years, at least, and we are interested in knowing the reason why. To that end, we would like to formally request information regarding charges filed with the MDHR either by Roseville residents or against Roseville residents, businesses, or other entities. Specifically, for the past three years, our request encompasses information regarding how many such charges were filed with the MDHR, what the nature ofthose charges was, and how those charges were resolved. Again, let me express our interest, as a local Human Rights Commission, in assisting the MDHR in any way possible. Please do not hesitate to let us know what we can do to help the Department, and how we can work together to further the cause of human rights in Minnesota. Thank you very much for your assistance.
