<br />HUMAN RIGHTS COMMISSION MINUTES <br />TUESDAY, MAY 13,1997 <br /> <br />1. Call to Order <br />The meeting was called to order by Chairman Mike Trainor at 7:05 p.m. <br /> <br />2. Roll Call <br />Members present: Brenda Boily-Salmanpour, Janet Gordon, Janet Henquinet, <br />Mike Hermes, Michael Jordan, and Mike Trainor. <br /> <br />Members absent: Issac Afwerke, Jill Bergquist, Susan Forsyth, and Thelma <br />McKenzie. <br /> <br />3. Approval of Minutes <br />Brenda Boily-Salmanpour moved, Mike Jordan seconded, that the minutes of the <br />April 8, 1997 meeting be approved. Roll Call, Ayes: All present. Nays: None. <br /> <br />4. Committee Reports <br /> <br />A. Bias/Hate Crime <br />No new report. Trainor indicated there is a need to update network contacts <br />to make sure all names and numbers are current. <br /> <br />B. Cable <br />After much discussion, the conclusion is that the Commission will need to <br />supply some technical support as well as talent and program topics before <br />any cable segments become a reality. <br /> <br />Mike Hermes gave out CTV orientation class schedules to the <br />Commissioners. Anyone interested in technical training is encouraged to <br />attend this class. <br /> <br />Trainor will check with the City to see if costs of training can be paid by <br />Human Rights Commission budget funds. <br /> <br />C. Essay Contest <br />Rosefest Parade is June 30 beginning at 6:30 p.m. Essay contest winners <br />will be contacted by Hermes to make sure who is going to ride in the parade. <br />We need two Commissioners to attend-one to drive and one to talk when <br />interviewed. <br /> <br />D. Human Rights Excellence Award <br />No nominations have been received to date. The Commission discussed <br />possible avenues to get the word out on the award. <br />
