<br />HUMAN RIGHTS COMMISSION MINUTES <br />TUESDAY, AUGUST 11, 1998 <br /> <br />1) Call to Order <br />The meeting was called to order by Jill Bergquist at 7:20pm. <br /> <br />2) Roll Call <br />Members present: Jill Bergquist, , Eric Egli, Mike Hermes, Michael Jordan and <br />Thelma McKenzie. <br /> <br />Members Absent: Issac Afwerke, Brenda Boily-Salmanpour, Jan Gordon and Janet <br />Henquinet. <br /> <br />Others Present: Marcella Houser, Youth Representative, and Debbie Zamow, Staff <br />Liaison. <br /> <br />3) Approval of Minutes <br />Egli moved, Jordan seconded that the minutes from the July 14 meeting be <br />approved. Motion passed unanimously. <br /> <br />4) Cable Program - Promotion/Human Rights Excellence Award <br />Bergquist and Hermes have met to write scripts and prepare some short public <br />service announcements on cable in order to bring awareness to human rights. <br />Hermes presented a script for one of the announcements to the Commission. <br /> <br />6) Statewide Human Rights Essay Contest <br />McKenzie will met with the League of MN Human Rights Commissions to discuss <br />the rules for the proposed statewide Human Rights Essay Contest. The League <br />agreed to allow the Roseville Commission to draft the rules of the programs and to <br />formulate the essay questions. Bergquist, McKenzie and Hermes will serve on a <br />subcommittee and present finding to the Commission. <br /> <br />7) Preparation for Meeting with John Thein, School Superintendent <br />Bergquist will formulate comments for the Commissioners to consider during the <br />next meeting. Comments are enclosed. <br /> <br />8) Other Business/Announcements <br />McKenzie presented information for the next League of Minnesota Human Rights <br />Commissions Annual Conference. The conference is scheduled for September 26 <br />at the Whitney Senior Center in St. Cloud, MN. Please see brochure enclosed for <br />further information. <br />
