<br />HUMAN RIGHTS COMMISSION MINUTES <br />TUESDAY, JANUARY 13,1998 <br /> <br />1. Call to Order <br />The meeting was called to order by Jill Bergquist at 7:00 p.m. <br /> <br />2. Roll Call <br />Members present: Issac Afwerke, Jill Bergquist, Brenda Boily-Salmanpour, <br />Janet Gordon, Michael Jordan, Thelma McKenzie. <br /> <br />Members absent: Susan Forsyth, Janet Henquinet, Mike Hermes, Mike <br />Trainor. <br /> <br />Others present: Debbie Zamow, Staff Liaison <br /> <br />3. Approval of Minutes <br />Brenda Boily-Salmanpour moved, Thelma McKenzie seconded, that the minutes <br />of the December 9, 1997 meeting be approved. <br /> <br />Roll Call, Ayes: All Present <br /> <br />Nays: None <br /> <br />4. Committee Reports <br />A. Bias/Hate Crimes - No report. <br /> <br />B. Cable TV/Video - No report. <br /> <br />C. Human Riqhts Excellence Award - Jill Bergquist forwarded a current copy <br />of the Excellence Award letter to the City to be mailed to the Chamber or <br />Commerce, Kiwanis, Rotary, Lions, VFW, American Legion, etc. A press <br />release was also included and will be forwarded to the Communications <br />department for delivery to the media. <br /> <br />5. Grievance Update - No report. <br /> <br />6. 1997 Human Riahts Essav Contest <br />Michael Jordan agreed to attend the January 26 City Council meeting in order to <br />recognize the winners of the Essay Contest. <br /> <br />7. Other Business/Announcement- <br />The Commission is interested in having a youth representative attend meetings. <br />A Student Representative packet should be sent to Roseville Area High School <br />to explain the program. <br /> <br />Tanya Anderson of the Youth Leadership Council has contacted the City and is <br />interested in establishing a tie to the Commission. Jill Bergquist will contact her <br />about a possible alliance. <br /> <br />The "President's Initiative on Race" was discussed as another possible way to <br />bring notice to the Commission. <br />
