<br />HUMAN RIGHTS COMMISSION MINUTES <br />TUESDAY, JULY 13,1999 <br /> <br />1) Call to Order <br />The meeting was called to order by Eric Egli at 7: 15pm. <br /> <br />2) Roll Call <br />Members present: Issac Afwerke , Brenda Boily-Salmanpour, Eric Egli, Thelma <br />McKenzie, and Alexis Orosz. <br /> <br />Members Absent:, Jill Bergquist, Jan Gordon, Mike Hermes, Susan Oliphant, Mary <br />Vidas. <br /> <br />Others Present: Debbie Zamow, Staff Liaison. <br /> <br />3) Approval of Minutes <br />Boily-Salmanpour moved, Orosz seconded that the minutes from the May 11 <br />meeting be approved. Motion passed unanimously. <br /> <br />4) Human Rights Essay Contest <br />The Commission thanked Isaac Afwerke for driving the car of 1998 essay contest <br />winners in the parade on June 28. The League of Minnesota Human Rights <br />Commissions has approved the Roseville Commission's recommendation for next <br />year's question. An initial letter has been mailed to cities announcing the 1999 <br />contest. <br /> <br />6) Cable Program/Promotion <br />Vidas called in to report that the editing of the program should be completed by the <br />end of July. Film should run in July or early August. <br /> <br />7) Low Income Housing <br />The Planning Commission and City Center Task Force have been discussing the <br />area south of City Hall in order to assess the future needs of the city. The site <br />currently has a trailer park on it. The Human Rights Commission feels it is important <br />to track the level of low income housing in the city. Zamow will ask for information <br />from the Community Development Department on the number of low income <br />housing units in the city. <br /> <br />8) "Partners in Human Rights Education" Program <br />McKenzie stated that the program is one relating to teaching kids values. Bergquist <br />will discuss at the next meeting. <br /> <br />9) Discussion of Parks and Recreation Issues <br />Afwerke left a contact from the Department of Natural Resources for Southeast <br />Asian issues. <br />
