<br />4) Approval of Minutes <br />Egli moved, Orosz seconded that the minutes from the August 10 meeting and the <br />September 14 meeting be approved. Motion passed unanimously. <br /> <br />5) Partners in Human Rights Education <br />Bergquist noted that many resources were available to new trainers and that she <br />has the start-up information. She also stated that the Commission's newest <br />member, Steven Smith, has been trained in the program. Smith suggested that the <br />Commission promote the program to schools and inform them that the Commission <br />has information and can put them in contact with trainers who will come into their <br />classrooms. Vidas suggested that staff meetings or staff development coordinators <br />are the best people to contact at the schools. <br /> <br />6) Human Rights Essay Contest <br />November 19 is the deadline for children to turn in their essays to their principals <br />office. Hermes has agreed to pick up the essays on Monday, November 22. A <br />subcommittee made up of Bergquist, Orosz and Vidas will select the top essays. <br />The winning essay will be determined at the next meeting. <br /> <br />7) Cable Program/Promotion <br />Vidas reported that the editing has been completed and the show has been given to <br />CTV for scheduling. She is hopeful that it will be scheduled in December. <br /> <br />8) Low Income Housing <br />The Community Circles program may help flesh out this issue. <br /> <br />9) Discussion of Parks and Recreation Issues <br />The Commissioners are interested in finding out the outcome of this summer's <br />discussion with the Parks and Recreation Commission. Zamow will contact the <br />Parks and Recreation Department to find out the status. <br /> <br />1 O)Other Business/Announcements <br />Orosz moved, Hermes seconded that the Commission sponsor a Community Circle <br />program after January 1, 2000. Ayes: Afwerke, Bergquist, Boily-Salmanpour, Egli, <br />Hermes, Orosz, Vidas Nays: None Abstain: Smith. <br /> <br />A complaint was received by Bergquist regarding a possible hate crime. She <br />contacted the Roseville Police Department to verify that the State Human Rights <br />Department has received the information since if a victim believes it to be a hate <br />crime it must be reported. She agreed to compose a letter to the victim from the <br />Commission to offer support. <br /> <br />Annual Minnesota Human Rights Day Conference will be held December 3. <br />Interested Commissioners should contact Zamow about registration. <br />
