HUMAN RIGHTS COMMISSION MINUTES TUESDAY, MARCH 9, 1999 1) Call to Order The meeting was called to order by Jill Bergquist at 7:15pm. 2) Roll Call Members present:, Jill Bergquist, Brenda Boily-Salmanpour, Eric Egli, Susan Oliphant and Mary Vidas. Members Absent: Issac Afwerke, Jan Gordon, Mike Hermes, Thelma McKenzie and Marcella Houser, Youth Representative. Others Present: Debbie Zamow, Staff Liaison. 3) Approval of Minutes Boily-Salmanpour moved, Vidas seconded that the minutes from the Februaru 9 meeting be approved. Motion passed unanimously. 4) Bias Complaint As of the meeting date, neither complainant has returned an intake form. 5) Human Rights Essay Contest The League of MN Human Rights Commissions reviewed essays at their meeting on February 28 and the winners are as follows: 151 Place 2nd Place 3rd Place Golden Valley South St. Paul St. Cloud Awards will be presented to the winners on April 21 at 4:00 in Golden Valley. The League has asked Zamow to prepare certificates for each of the participants in this year's contest. 6) Cable Program/Promotion Vidas met with representatives from CTV to begin planning for the Human Rights program. She found out that volunteers should be available to assist with the taping of the show and she volunteered to be the director. Topics for future discussion include set development, promotion and publicity, and ideas for segments. Some ideas that were discussed can be found on the enclosed attachment. Commissioners are encouraged to host segments in upcoming shows or be interviewed. Special note: The Subcommittee will meet at the CTV Studio, 950 Woodhill Drive, on Tuesday, March 16 at 7:00pm. The program will be set up at that time. All Commissioners are invited to attend.
