<br />Memo <br /> <br />To: Human Rights Commissioners <br /> <br />From: Debbie Zamow <br /> <br />Re: September 12, 2000 Meeting Summary <br /> <br />Date: September 14, 2000 <br /> <br />The Tuesday, September 12, 2000 meeting of the Roseville Human Rights Commission was not <br />held because a quorum was not present. The following members attended: Jill Bergquist, Brenda <br />Boily-Salmanpour, Thelma McKenzie, and Steve Smith. <br /> <br />Commission members discussed the following: <br /> <br />1. Upcoming Training Session "Understanding, Reporting, and Countering Hate Crimes" <br />Commissioners are strongly urged to attend one or both of the upcoming training sessions. <br />The sessions will be held Wednesday, September 27 from 1 :00 - 3 :30 and Thursday, <br />September 28 from 9:00 - 11 :30 <br /> <br />2. Human Rights Essay Contest <br />The question from the League has been published. It was determined that the question will <br />be mailed out to RosevilleschoolsbySeptember 15. This year's questions is "Choose an <br />article in the Universal Declaration of Human Rights and write an essay relating the article to <br />an event currently in the local, national, or international news." <br /> <br />3. Community Outreach <br />The subcommittee came up with new ideas for outreach. <br />a. Quiz Show <br />b. Celebration at Rosedale <br />c. Movies at the library <br />d. Publish hate crimes statistics <br />e. Children's storytime at the library, bookstore <br />f. Website <br />g. Sponsor events such as running race <br /> <br />4. Other Business/Announcements <br />Bergquist reported that at an all-school assembly at RAHS, a presenter made some anti-gay <br />and anti-women comments. She directed a complaint to the Superintendent and learned that <br />an apology was already made to the student body by the presenter and the principal. <br /> <br />Enclosed with this memo, please find the June 13 meeting minutes. <br /> <br />Minutes from the June 13 meeting will be voted on during the next meeting scheduled for <br />Tuesday, October 10, at 7:00 p.m. <br />
