Memo

To: Human Rights Commissioners

From: Debbie Zamow

Re: January 11, 2000 Meeting Summary

Date: January 14, 2000

The Tuesday, January II, 2000 meeting of the Roseville Human Rights Commission was not
held because a quorum was not present. The following members attended: Issac Afwerke, Mike
Hermes, Thelma McKenzie, and Alexis Orosz. Steve Smith arrived as the assembly adjourned.
One visitor, Bridget Davitt, also attended.

Commission members discussed the following:

1. Letter of January 11, 2000 from Jill Bergquist
Although Bergquist was unable to attend this meeting, she made a report by memo to the
Commission. (See enclosed.) In her report she assigned Commissioners to various sub-
committees and gave updates on a few outstanding projects.

2. Bias Complaint
The Community Alert leafleting campaign has been postponed until the Police Department is
able to do more investigating. Bergquist will be in touch with the Police Department and
expects leafleting to begin around January 18. The sub-committee for the leafleting
~ampaign is Eric Egli, Alexis Orosz and Steve Smith.

3. Bias/Hate Crime Response Update
The Bias/Hate Crime Response document is desperately out-of-date. Sub-committee
members are asked to call the contact listed in the document to verify their involvement with
the Commission. This sub-committee was reorganized to include Issac Afwerke, Brenda
Boily-Salmanpour and Susan Oliphant.

4. Publicity/Cable TV Sub-Committee
This sub-committee was reorganized to include Jill Bergquist, Mike Hermes and Mary Vidas.

5. Community Circles Program
The registration form for the program is to be completed by Zamow. The program is planned
to start in late April or early May.
