<br />HUMAN RIGHTS COMMISSION MINUTES <br />TUESDAY, date <br /> <br /> <br />o <br /> <br />1) Call to Order <br />The meeting was called to order by Jill Bergquist at 7:14 p.m. <br /> <br />2) Roll Call <br />Members present: Issac Afwerke , Jill Bergquist, Brenda Boily-Salmanpour, Eric <br />Egli, Alexis Orosz, Thelma McKenzie, Steve Smith and Mary Vidas. <br /> <br />Members Absent: Mike Hermes (called), Susan Oliphant (no call) & Mary Vidas <br />(status unclear) <br /> <br />3) Approval of Minutes <br />Orosz moved, Boliey Salmonpoir seconded and approved the minutes of the <br />11/09/99 meeting without abstentions. <br /> <br />4) Partners in Human Rights Education <br />Bergquist noted that many resources were available to new trainers and that she <br />has the start-up information. She also stated that the Commission's newest <br />member, Steven Smith, has been trained in the program. Smith suggested that the <br />Commission promote the program to schools and inform them that the Commission <br />has information and can put them in contact with trainers who will come into their <br />classrooms. Vidas suggested that staff meetings or staff development coordinators <br />are the best people to contact at the schools. <br /> <br />5) Human Rights Essay Contest <br />November 19 is the deadline for children to turn in their essays to their principals <br />office. Hermes has agreed to pick up the essays on Monday, November 22. A <br />subcommittee made up of Bergquist, Orosz and Vidas will select the top essays. <br />The winning essay will be determined at the next meeting. <br /> <br />7) Cable Program/Promotion <br />Vidas reported that the editing has been completed and the show has been given to <br />CTV for scheduling. She is hopeful that it will be scheduled in December. <br /> <br />8) Low Income Housing <br />The Community Circles program may help flesh out this issue. <br /> <br />9) Discussion of Parks and Recreation Issues <br />The Commissioners are interested in finding out the outcome of this summer's <br />discussion with the Parks and Recreation Commission. Zamow will contact the <br />Parks and Recreation Department to find out the status. <br />
