HUMAN RIGHTS COMMISSION MINUTES TUESDAY, APRIL 11 1) Call to Order The meeting was called to order by Alexis Orosz at 7:08 p.m. 2) Roll Call Members present: Issac Afwerke, Brenda Boily-Salmanpour, Eric Egli, Thelma McKenzie, Alexis Orosz, and Steven Smith. Members Absent: Jill Bergquist and Susan Oliphant 3) Approval of Minutes McKenzie moved, Afwerke seconded that the approval of the minutes of the February 8 meeting be tabled until the May 9 meeting. Motion passed unanimously. 4) Bias Complaint/Leafletting Egli reported that League representative Mort Rywick said that there were no more incidents in the Centennial neighborhood. The Police Department is scheduled for training on reporting bias crimes. Egli suggested that a neighborhood watch program might benefit the Centennial neighborhood. He will contact Jerry Reuttimann about offering a program to the family and neighbors. Egli will speak to the family about this before the next meeting. 5) Community Outreach The Community Achievement Award notice needs to be republished. 7) Update Bias/Hate Response McKenzie will develop a form letter to send to our current network to update their contact people. Afwerke will brainstorm new groups to add to the network. 8) New Business Egli attended the March 25 League Idea Exchange and reported on the MN Department of Human Rights presentation. McKenzie announced that the 2nd Regional Idea Exchange will be May 20. Former Commissioner Mike Hermes offered to be involved with this year's Rose Parade that will be held on June 26. The award presentation for the Statewide Essay Contest sponsored by the League will be held on Thursday, May 4, 4:00pm at the John Rose OVAL. 9) Adjournment Egli moved, Boily -Salmanpour seconded that the meeting be adjourned at 8:05 pm. Motion passed unanimously.
