<br />HUMAN RIGHTS COMMISSION MINUTES <br />TUESDAY, APRIL 11 <br /> <br />1) Call to Order <br />The meeting was called to order by Alexis Orosz at 7:08 p.m. <br /> <br />2) Roll Call <br />Members present: Issac Afwerke, Brenda Boily-Salmanpour, Eric Egli, Thelma <br />McKenzie, Alexis Orosz, and Steven Smith. <br /> <br />Members Absent: Jill Bergquist and Susan Oliphant <br /> <br />3) Approval of Minutes <br />McKenzie moved, Afwerke seconded that the approval of the minutes of the <br />February 8 meeting be tabled until the May 9 meeting. Motion passed unanimously. <br /> <br />4) Bias Complaint/Leafletting <br />Egli reported that League representative Mort Rywick said that there were no more <br />incidents in the Centennial neighborhood. The Police Department is scheduled for <br />training on reporting bias crimes. Egli suggested that a neighborhood watch <br />program might benefit the Centennial neighborhood. He will contact Jerry <br />Reuttimann about offering a program to the family and neighbors. Egli will speak to <br />the family about this before the next meeting. <br /> <br />5) Community Outreach <br />The Community Achievement Award notice needs to be republished. <br /> <br />7) Update Bias/Hate Response <br />McKenzie will develop a form letter to send to our current network to update their <br />contact people. Afwerke will brainstorm new groups to add to the network. <br /> <br />8) New Business <br />Egli attended the March 25 League Idea Exchange and reported on the MN <br />Department of Human Rights presentation. <br /> <br />McKenzie announced that the 2nd Regional Idea Exchange will be May 20. <br /> <br />Former Commissioner Mike Hermes offered to be involved with this year's Rose <br />Parade that will be held on June 26. <br /> <br />The award presentation for the Statewide Essay Contest sponsored by the League <br />will be held on Thursday, May 4, 4:00pm at the John Rose OVAL. <br /> <br />9) Adjournment <br />Egli moved, Boily -Salmanpour seconded that the meeting be adjourned at 8:05 pm. <br />Motion passed unanimously. <br />
